The art of designing a vacation home lies in crafting a space that is both inviting and instinctively livable a place that feels far removed from the city’s chaos yet intimately familiar. For fashion entrepreneurs Tanjim Haque and Asma Sultana, this dream took form in a tranquil getaway that redefines rustic sophistication through contemporary container architecture.

Located on the serene outskirts of the city, the Escape Den embraces the raw honesty of shipping containers, reinterpreting their industrial rigidity into a language of warmth and elegance, under the direction of Ar. Kazi Fida Islam and his team at River & Rain, the design navigate structural challenges and aesthetic transformation with poetic precision.
“Apart from the structural execution, the complex procedure of transforming a shipping container into a cozy home was a substantial design constraint,” explains Architect Fida. “The non-enchanting look of hard-core containers needed to be converted into a comfortable and visually pleasing built form. The scale of each container has been carefully schemed so that both internal and external spaces converse harmoniously. The exposed steel structures create a balanced rhythm — an architectural dialogue between strength and serenity.”

Within this reimagined shell of steel and light, the family finds their escape — a retreat woven with quiet moments and connection.
“A typical weekend is spent de-stressing after a hectic week at work. We often play tennis in the court or just sit in the gazebo sipping coffee and catching up, while our children run around and play in the lawn,” shares Asma Sultana.
The Rustic Retreat stands as an ode to adaptive design — where architecture breathes with its environment, and every element resonates with intention. It proves that luxury, at its purest, is not about scale or grandeur, but about creating space for life to unfold — naturally, freely, and beautifully.
